Weekend away in the Lake District
We've just got back from a long weekend in the Lake District so thought I'd update my blog with some photos. We stayed in a camping pod at the National Trust campsite in Wasdale. We took our mountain bikes with us and invested in an inflatable kayak too.
The car (Subaru Impreza WRX Sportwagon) was well suited to the conditions on day 1. It was raining like there was no tomorrow so road surfaces were covered in mud, gravel and sheep crap. The permanent 4 wheel drive system proved very useful and the power came in handy too! Days 2 and 3 were brilliant weather-wise but the last day was grim, with plenty of wind and rain around!
We got a Sevylor Adventure kayak. I would really like a rigid kayak, but they are pretty expensive. I managed to pick this one up from Decathlon at a bargain price and it performed really well. It came with a keg/fin for the underside, which helps keep the kayak tracking straight. The entire kayak is covered in a canvas-like cover which makes it more hard wearing than some of the cheaper models, which look little more than posh lilo's!
